Ahmed Bouda, 29 has been charged after authorities said he struck and killed Corey Claybrook around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 on the 600 block of Springfield Avenue then fled the scene, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said.
Claybrook died approximately one hour later. Bouda was found by officers a short time later and was charged with death by auto, leaving the scene of a crash, and failure to render aid to a victim. He was lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility, pending an appearance in the Essex County Central Judicial Processing (CJP) Court.
Claybrook, whose Facebook page shows he owned a home improvement company, was popular among Newark residents and was mourned on many people.
